Physical Science Technician

As a Physical Science Technician GS-1311-04, you will:
You will assist long term monitoring within 10 National Park Units taking field measurements of water quality parameters such as pH, conductivity, temperature, clarity, dissolved oxygen, and water quantity (lake water level, stream discharge) in park lakes and streams. You will also collect water samples from lakes and streams for chemical analysis at contract labs. The position involves calibrating and maintaining equipment in field and lab sites, conducting simple laboratory analyses, entering information into electronic databases and spreadsheets, compiling and analyzing information for use in interim and annual reports. This position requires use of vehicles, equipment, and watercraft to conduct these activities. Field protocols may require some sampling in areas of heavy poison ivy and high densities of biting insects; during hot, humid, wet and/or windy weather, and/or winter conditions. Other work must be conducted from a small watercraft; portaging the watercraft and other field gear will also be required. Approximately 15% of the incumbent's time will be performed in an indoor setting (office and wet chemistry laboratory). Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To qualify for this position at the GS-04 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
Experience:
Possess six months of general experience and six months of specialized experience. GENERAL EXPERIENCE is any type of work that demonstrates the ability to perform the work of the position, or experience with provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of a Biological Science Technician. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include:
assisting natural resource management projects such as field surveys or inventories; assisting in collecting and recording scientific data using established techniques including providing preliminary assessment of the information; and/or assisting in conducting research and running statistical analysis' to gather information for use in scientific or technical reports.You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION:
Successful completion of at least 2 years of education above the high school level that included at least 12 semester hours in any combination of courses such as physical science, engineering, or any branch of mathematics, except financial and commercial mathematics. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
